The MASTER OF PORT competition is aimed at sommeliers and is exclusive to members of the partner sommelier associations. Candidates must be over 18 and have evidence of having been in active employment for at least two years in premises open to the public in one of the following roles: sommelier, maître d'hôtel, head waiter, restaurateur, wine store owner, or wine merchant.

Previous winners of the MASTER OF PORT competition cannot reapply to take part.
